The goal of our partnerships is to look out for our clients. We help them welcome the future without constantly worrying about technology.
Paper, writing, the Internet, apps, and AI are technologies. They are "the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes." New technologies induce change, and change induces worry and uncertainty.
AI: the FOMO of the century
The biggest FOMO (fear of missing out) so far this century is artificial intelligence. This century began with continued digitalisation and the dot-com bubble bursting, which was an opportunity to build new things. With AI, there's similar opportunism and positivity, but also a huge fear that AI will dramatically change or replace a lot of work. This time, we're unsure whether there will be enough new types of jobs available.
This leads to a rushed effort to "just do something with AI". A few things typically follow:
- We believe AI can make things more efficient but that does not automatically mean more effective.
- We apply AI to boost productivity and add it to existing flows.
- AI is represented as an "apply AI" button and an extra step.
- We’re disappointed and conclude that AI is just a temporary trend.
Instead of blindly stuffing features with AI, the process should start with a real understanding of AI's capabilites (especially LLMs) as well as user needs. We should push the whole system into the future – including the people, processes, UIs, and business logic - and then automate and fit AI in where reasonable.
AI is a topical example, but these principles apply to all technologies.
Navigating new technological possibilities
In terms of systems thinking, what can technology do and what problems can it solve? How can we apply technology to simplify flows and processes, instead of adding noise and more obstacles for humans to navigate?
We need partners who can challenge our thinking, not just add technology. We need someone a few steps ahead in technological advancements, who sees the pitfalls and the potential. No one person has a grasp on everything; we need organisations, ecosystems, and partnerships to maintain a reasonable and realistic vision.
When you can count on this network of professionals to prioritise your interests, you can enjoy serenity through technology. We at Fraktio provide that ourselves and via vetted partners.
The struggle with FOMO is real, and things aren’t getting easier or simpler. Our job is to help you see further into the future and reduce uncertainty. Apply AI, apply technology.
